Below are the U-Pick orchards and farms for muscadines that we know of in this area. Not all areas of any state, nor even every state, have muscadines orchards that are open to the public. If you know of any others, please tell us using the add a farm form!

Remember to always check with the farm's own website or Facebook page before you go - or call or email them if they don't have a website or Facebook page. Conditions at the farms and crops can change literally overnight, so if you want to avoid a wasted trip out there - check with the farm directly before you go! If I cannot reach them, I DON'T GO!

  Comments from a visitor on July 07, 2010: "The best I've been to. The hour drive is quite long but well worth it. There are several farms closer, but none match the quality. They water the plants two hours every day, and the health of the plants shows it. The blueberries are the largest I've seen, many the size of small grapes. The bushes are absolutely loaded. They cut them back every year so that the plants don't get too tall to pick them easily. And in the mornings, there is some shade, which is really nice when the weather is hot. And at $7 a gallon, very good priced."

A visitor writes on September 19, 2016: "I took my kids there last week. Thanks so much for providing the information on this website! We had a nice time; however, you might note on your website that although the picnic tables are still there, we weren't able to use them. The owner has disallowed carrying any sort of bag or basket of any sort except for the baskets he gives you for picking. This made it impossible for us to have our picnic at the picnic tables, because we couldn't carry the food there. That was a disappointment for us. There is a patio and chairs out front which they let us use, but it's kind of in the parking lot and in the full sun, so obviously it's not the same as a picnic in a vineyard, which we thought we were going to have. The grapes were really great, though." Note from Blake: That may be an issue of regulations: often eating is not allowed for customers, by law, in crop production areas. The tables may have been there before the rules were in place. Did the owner explain?

Grape picking tips

• Pick ripe: Grapes do not ripen after they are picked
• Appearance: Look for heavy, firm grapes
• To harvest grapes, carefully cut the grape clusters from the vine using pruning shears. Be careful not to bruise or damage the fruit or the surrounding vines.
