Comments and Feedback About the Cincinati area of Ohio Pick-Your-Own Farms!

This page provides a detailed comments submitted by visitors to pick- your- own (PYO, U-pick, pick-it-yourself) farms in the Cincinati area of Ohio

In reading comments, whether they are positive or negative, bear in mind that everyone's experience varies.  We try to weed out emails which are clearly fakes or so extreme as to be implausible.  When we get negative feedback about a farm or orchard, we contact the farm, and provide them the comments (without any reference to the person who submitted them) to allow them to respond.  We then publish both the visitor's comments and the farm's response.

Don't pay too much to a single negative comment; rather, look for patterns.

In the past several years, we can happily say that negative comments are generally rare.  The vast majority of people find the the trip to be immensely rewarding!

Tuken's Orchard and Farm Market - Back to their listing
15725 Eaton Pike (state Route 35), West Alexandria, OH 45381.

  • The Farm responds to the comment below: "Tuken's promotes the MINIMAL use of harmful pesticides and herbicides. And many crops receive no sprays at all.  There are key times when apple trees are sprayed with anti-fungal treatments.  The spray itself neutralizes within a short time.  We also spray at bloom phase to prevent worms from forming INSIDE the apple. If that occurs, we would not have any viable fruit to pick or sell.  We do not claim to be completely free of spray, but try to manage what and how we spray to produce beautiful, tasty, and healthy fruit. We apologize for any inconvenience to having sprayed our orchard the day customer wanted to pick.  Raspberries need anti fungal treatment occasionally to prevent mold, and because the berries cannot be "washed", we simply do not pick anything until after the spray has neutralized. Our orchard has over 3500 fruit trees, raspberries, and strawberries which demand constant care, as one would care for a child. We need to treat the plants to prevent disease, as a parent would treat a child through medicine or vaccines to prevent or cure serious illness.  We would not compromise losing our beautiful orchard by not applying necessary treatment in a safe and reasonable manner."
  • A visitor writes on October 01, 2009: "This farm is listed as minimizing pesticide use. I would say this is a gimic on their part. As the the farm was beautiful, the staff friendly, they had just sprayed that very morning and the day before, and the air was full of pesticides. After leading us to the apples to pick, and saying we couldn't pick raspberries because they had just sprayed those (even though when calling that very morning she said they had raspberries to pick) they then decided they wouldn't let anyone else pick that day. Thank you for exposing us to cancer causing chemicals. I was not very happy. I think if you aren't worried about pesticides, this is a great farm, but for those who care, and went here because it was listed as such, DON'T BOTHER!"
