Comments from a visitor on October 24, 2011: "Hi there, I saw your website when looking for somewhere to take my 3 year old daughter strawberry picking in Perth, Western Australia. I used to love berry picking as a child and hoped my daughter and I could have some fun sharing this wonderful experience. The only farm I could find in Perth was Strawberry Fields on Wanneroo Road, so this morning we travelled over an hour to get there only to find the tearooms closed, extremely grumpy and unwelcoming service and terrible facilities. I must have been told about the 'rules' three or four times and was made to feel quite uncomfortable about being there with a child. I would NOT be recommending this farm to anyone as they clearly do not want the 'pick-your-own' business. This is a shame as there are hardly any places in Perth to go and PYO anymore. Anyway, hope this feedback helps - thanks for the website!

For oil varieties of olive the cost of pressing the olives is included the the price and we will press them for you straight after they are picked so you can take home your own, fresh, new season extra virgin olive oil, (bring your own clean containers or we can supply them). For olive oil you must harvest a minimum of 50kg of fruit as our press cannot deal with anything less. As a guide, 50kg of olives should yield 9 or 10 litres of oil on average. For pickling (table) varieties of olives we will give you instructions on how to pickle and flavour your olives at home. We can also provide purpose-made pickling containers. Cost: $2.50 (Australian dollars) per kg for both pickling and oil varieties. This includes pressing (for oil varieties) and the use of our harvesting equipment, (mats, rakes, baskets, etc). The cost may change according to seasonal variations, but will be confirmed when you make a booking. Bookings are essential to guarantee the availability of fruit and also the press, as this is a working farm! Our olives groves are conveniently located around the oil press and we are a five minute drive from the restaurants and attractions of the historic town of York. Why not make a day or weekend of it?

Canning equipment
To can (bottle, jar) most acidic foods, like jams, jellies, salsa, fruit products like applesauce, apple butter, peaches, etc, you need the following:

A canner - a large pot, usually 33 qts, which can hold 7 quart jars or 12 8 ounce jars. And large pot with a lid will work, so long as each jar will be submerged by at least 1 inch of boiling water.
This is a good canner, and here is a canning kit, but Amazon seems to have difficulty keeping them in stock.
If you want to can low acid foods like canned green beans, sweet corn, meats, etc., you MUST use a pressure canner. It reaches higher temperatures which are needed to kill mold and botulism. The jars, lids and other equipment are the same.

Canning rack - The canning rack is critical, just be sure it fits inside your canning pot. It allows you to safely and easily lift the jars in and out of the canner.

Miscellaneous tools - Some kits contain most of the tools you'll need like this canning tools kit.
Jar tongs (to pick up hot jars)
Jar funnel - good ones also help you measure the headspace and cover the rim from splashes
Canning Lid rack - to hold the lids while they are sanitizing in a small pot of boiling water

Supplies -
canning jars - these come in the modern lid and ring system and some older version. Most have change to the two piece lid and ring method since it ENORMOUSLY reduces spoilage. Like everything else, jars can be hard to obtain. Some commercial products, like spaghetti sauce, sometimes come in a sturdy jar that fits the standard lid and ring.
