Notes for November 2024: Crop growth is slowing down, except for Christmas tree farms and if you live in southern California, southern Texas, Florida or along the Gulf coast where citrus are starting, and believe it or not, the blueberry and strawberry season in those areas is about to begin. See your state harvest calendar . This year, much of the country is still seeing mild weather, so lettuce, peas, broccoli, cabbage and other greens are thriving. And this is a good time to get a canner and learn how to preserve foods for the winter, like canning some applesauce, apple butter or jam, which make great gifts. The patch is not certified organic. Many people will believe (rightfully so) that this is a certified organic u-pick and will not be happy to find out that is not the case. It is true that the blueberries are not sprayed whatsoever, which is great! Doesn't make them organic, though. "

The owner is grizzled-looking, but really friendly. not much in the way of amenities but the blueberries are yummy. You're explicitly told to eat as much as you want while you're picking. I take plenty out in my stomach."

In a normal year we will start out picking strawberries for the farmers markets followed about mid June with summer red raspberries then blackberries, fall red raspberries, apples and pumpkins. Our growing method is conventional with a great deal of effort put on Integrated Pest Management. We work with nature every where we can, from seeding down hard to plant areas to a vegetation that will attract beneficial insects to growing a combination of clover and grasses between rows of raspberries, not only make it easier for our customers to walk, but to supply some of the nitrogen the raspberries need to grow. Our seventeen acre corn field three has three professionally designed and cut corn mazes which total over five miles of challenging trails, excellent day or night. The mazes appeal to all ages. The mazes are open Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays in September and seven days a week during October. There are three games for you to play within the mazes. Find all 18 checkpoints, F.S.I. (Farm Scene Investigation - like "Clue"), and Farm Treasure Hunt. We alos have Farm Animals; Our miniature donkeys, calves and baby goats enjoy attention from kids of all ages; Donuts & Cider - Coleman's homemade donuts are said to be the best around. Hayrides, Enjoy the scenery from the hayride which travels around the farm and along a creek. Deer sightings are common and you may catch a glimpse of a wild turkey. Groups of 15 or more benefit from excellent group rates when booked in advance. Bring your church group, 4-H group, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, sport group and birthday parties to Coleman's for a great time. We have a huge 30' x 60' tent and plenty of picnic tables for your use. Directions: between Charlevoix and Vernor next to the Wolverine Center, with boundaries of Lenox St and Coplin Street. Located between Grosse Pointe Park, The Connor Assembly Plant, Mack Avenue, and Jefferson Ave. We will be using a high-density trellised growing system. This means that the trees are trained to grow along a wire structure, so they don't have to work as hard against gravity. With the trellis growing system, Core Orchards' trees will be producing fruit within 3 years. Find out when harvest season starts and ends. Then, claim a ticket, select a harvest time slot, grab a basket, and hop on the tractor ride. Our tractor ride will take you to a predetermined harvest location in the orchard. The harvest time slots are designed to provide more than enough time to pick out the perfect apples. Do you want to party in the orchard?
