According the the USDA's data, apples and oranges are the most popular fruit among consumers in the United States.
Apples are the most popular fruit again consumed in all forms, fresh and processed, (most recent data is for 2019) at 12.6 pounds (1.4 gallons) per person, fresh apples at roughly 10 pounds per person, and canned, dried, and frozen apples totaling to 3.3 pounds per person.
Bananas (13.4 pounds per person) topped the list of most popular fresh fruits, while orange juice (16.7 pounds or 1.9 gallons) remained America’s favorite juice.
California is the largest producer of grapes, strawberries, peaches, nectarines, kiwifruit, prunes, and plums; is a major producer of a variety of other noncitrus fruit like apples, pears, and sweet cherries; and ranks second in citrus production. California's fruit-friendly climate gives it an advantage over other fruit-producing States. Florida's primary fruit crop is citrus.
